Southall is an area that has a very strong identity, whose steep and rich history, has moulded the area that it is today. However, a specific turning point in Southall’s history was the Southall Riots in 1979. The riots stemmed from a combination of factors, stemming from the frustrations of the people of Southall towards Ealing Council for allowing a National Front election meeting to happen in Southall Town Hall and the law enforcement at their unwillingness to take action against discrimination both from the public and from figures of authority. As a result of these frustrations, the riots ensued, and the people of Southall felt that the limit had been reached with respect to hiding away from their fear of being discriminated against. They started to embrace their heritage and the value that it could bring to the new places that they had moved to.
