Before the an arts and education centre stood on this site in Southall it was first home the Dominion Theatre. Opening in 1935 the Dominion Theatre was designed by architect Frank Ernest Bromige. The building was equipped with a large theatre, a cafe and a ballroom. The theatre ceased activity and closed in January 1962. It was later converted into a bingo hall and then back to films after a serge in Southall's Asian population and provided a space to screen Indian Bollywood Films. In 1979 the theatre closed and remained empty until 1982 when it was demolished.

The Dominion Arts & Education Centre now stands on the same site of the old Dominion Theatre. The Dominion is a community centre offering arts education and hiring facilities and in 2018 also became home to Southall Library. The Dominion lends itself to being a flexible space offering arts activities that reflect the diverse cultures represented in the borough of Ealing.
